Akai Laptop Controller
Akai MPK49 MIDI Controller or Akai MINIAK Synth?
Which one should I buy? I can only afford one, and I one the one that I can make more things with. I don't have a laptop so, if I buy the MIDI controller I need to buy a laptop too because then how am I going to play the gigs. The MPK49 is 399 and the MINIAK is going to be 499. Thanks!
When the either/or question comes up it is definitely time to find some spare work and scale back with the laptop. Find a used computer or upgrade the desktop you have with a wireless PC keyboard and small LCD monitor. You can find bargains at a thrift store or local auction or even a yard sale at this time of year, maybe add memory or do some trading. If I can find a guitar and practice amp for 50 dollars and I haven't bought a new computer ever because I build them from spare parts then you can probably ease back on your time frame a bit and figure it out.
If you had to play a gig to afford to save your life I would see the urgency of it.
Brian May of Queen once built a guitar with leftovers and junk from a guitar shop as I understand it. That guitar made him famous I hear! The late Del Shannon's keyboardist built a device with leftover TV tubes and Del hired him after his keyboard add-on propelled "Runaway" to Rock and Roll immortality.
Now let me ask you this...why are you going to use a separate Midi controller when you can probably use a computer to start with and work up the 'food chain'?
My music instructor in the eighties and early nineties was a commercial artist (jingle producer) and he used a Macintosh in 1990 that was way above a PC then and dismal for today and did stuff that was beyond belief.
I'd still say get a Korg or Roland or if you can rob a bank and pry it from a musician's deceased fingers get a MOOG. You have to plan to do it right.
