Korg SP170 vs Casio Privia 130/330?
I'm a beginner, but I've learned on an upright. I recently moved and want to get a digital piano. I want something that sounds and feels as much like a real piano as possible in this price range. I don't really care about other sounds, harpsichord and whatever they stick on there... not important. But I would like to be able to play the keyboard and record on my computer at some point. I've narrowed it down to the Korg SP170 or SP170s (what's the difference?) or the Casio Privia 130 or 330 ... Any suggestions? Thanks!
The two (and I read over the reviews, features, prices, etc.) are very closely matched as you may have already discovered. And the only thing left to consider is what price you are going to pay for either and whether in time one will be what fits your needs, or later on, wish you had gotten the other.
You must try them out physically and judge by your own abilities with your hands and ears. Never get anything over the many Internet sales/shipping outlets without having to had some sample of the model(s) you are familiar with already.
As far as intending to record through a PC or through other audio interface and software, most keyboards provide MIDI and even use of outputs (headphone/speaker) that can be tied into a computer system by way of patch cables. Manuals that come with these products usually instruct one in how to do it.
Only other brands I would recommend are Williams (great consumer, electronic piano/digital keyboards) and of course, Yamaha. These may you find to be a bit more pricey, but Williams is dedicated in just making a line of electronic and digital piano keyboards exclusively. And Yamaha units are almost the same in quality and performance as the Casio line, until you get into the more professional deck systems.
Above all, try them all out before deciding upon what you are looking for and what your needs may be in a good portable digital piano. There is a lot to choose from, but only your own hands and ears will tell the real story.
