Do you need to play Chrono Trigger before you can play Chrono Cross?
These are Playstation 1 games. I've heard Chrono Cross is a really good game and I wanted to buy it, but I also heard that the game is a sequel to Chrono Trigger. Do I need to play Chrono Trigger so I know what's going on in Chrono Cross?
No. I've beaten both and one is definitely not a requirement for the other. That said, there are some references (some more obscure than others) to the events of Chrono Trigger in Chrono Cross, but they're basically non-essential. Chrono Trigger is still one of my favorite RPGs, so if you can put up with graphics that are a bit out of date, I recommend playing it.
