easiest way to produce quality music using pro tools??
hey ..right now i dont have anything excpet pro tools LE, i dont have too much money so i just need the bare essentials to start producing quality music...................i was just wondering what setup is the cheapest to work with when it comes to producing....with quality sounds tho.....some people use workstations like yamaha motifs, others just use midi controllers with protools.......what is the best setup to use when producing.................
oh yea, and right now all im using is fruity loops and a mouse....i make really good music, and want to upgrade my quality
I don't think Pro Tools is that good, especially the cheaper versions, but whatever.
You'll need a soundcard with 24-bit ASIO drivers. Even a halfway decent mixer would be a good place to start after that, although a quality DAW would be a far better place to be. You'll need a bunch of mic's, preferably a few for vocals, at least two or three for instruments, some for drums (kick, snare, ambient/cymbals, etc). Shure SM57 for instruments, SM58 for vocals are a great way to start. Invest in some condenser mic's after that, especially for solo acoustic work, and vocals. Cables, cords, power supplies, pop screens, headphones, etc are all necessary as well. And if you're going to mix, you better get some good monitors, too. You can't mix with headphones and get a good final product - you need to hear the result in stereo, to hear any phase cancellations, etc.
Consider power conditioners and soundproofing as something that you'll have to invest in at some point as well. The goal is to drive your noise floor down as far as possible - -20 or -30 db is simply not good enough for professional work.
Midi is one way to record, for sure - but the quality will entirely dependent on how good your midi to audio conversion is. That means sinking a good chunk of money into that kind of software or hardware.
Getting quality sounds is not a cheap endeavor, but you can get close if you spend your money wisely and keep your noise level down whenever possible.
And I don't think very highly of Pro Tools, especially the cheaper versions of it. Cheaper versions? What's up with that? I use other stuff. Samplicity is way better, but it's also 1400$... I use Reaper. It's very inexpensive, but it has the same functionality and none of the restrictions of Pro Tools.
